"One of the dangers of having a lot of money is that you may be quite satisfied with the kinds of happiness money can give and so fail to relise your need for God. If everything seems to come simply by signing checks,(or sliding a card), you may forget that you are at every moment totally dependent on God" -C.S. Lewis (Mere Christianity, bk IV, chap.10, para. 11)italics added by me
"...the Caterpillar took the hookah out of its mouth, and addressed her in a languid, sleepy voice. 'Who are You?' said the Caterpillar...Alice replied, rather shyly, "i-i Hardly know, sir, just at prestent- at least I know who i was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'" --Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol
Hearing about a movie called "Unknown white male" about a photographer who gets amnesia, got me to thinking. the eternal Question...Who Are WE? What if you woke up and don't remember who you are?
Who am I...I am a sum total of all the decisions and choices I have made up till this point. All Those past choices are stored in my subconsious mind as Memories. All The memories I have are what Inform current choices. i.e. I may not touch a hot stove because I have a subconcious memory of getting burned.
WHO ARE YOU???
You have to follow God and then he will give you the things you want." This pastor spoke for half an hour and talked about a Christmas gift he wanted and how he got it. other stories from his life with a few jokes to sprinkled trough-out to make everyone laugh. Besides quoting the verse at the beginning of his sermon, it wasn't until five minutes from the end that he mentioned what I have quoted above.
It may sound like there is nothing wrong with what he said. That is the danger of heresy it sounds legitamate but if he had gone into the bible and read the rest of Matthew 6 the "things" that are being talked about are shelter, food, and clothing the minimum required to survive. I am sure there are people hit by Katrina that were "seeking the kingdom first" were is their stuff now? Where is their "things" they may not be comfortable but they have shelter and food available. Thanks to orginizations like the Red Cross
and churches like Grace BretherenThis pastor I'm sure wasn't intending to distort the scripture, but that's what happens when we approach the Bible selfishly as merely a book of truths to give us a set of principles for life, marriage, family, or finances. The Bible becomes nothing more than a tool to be used and it remains external. When we see the Bible as the living word, as Gods Story, it encompasses every aspect of life we are challenged to live in and become part of it.
habitual credit card use can be as dangerous as heroin, just as addictive and probably costs as much to. The other day I read an article about how this young mother ran up $50.000 in credit card debt from buying gymboree outfits fifty THOUSAND dollars in baby clothes c'mon that’s just crazy. Imagine if the APR on that card was just 12% she would be paying $500 a month just for the privilege of staying in debt. Its like saying, "here's $1000 put $500 toward what I owe and you keep the rest, buy your daughter a few gymborie outfits"
Read the whole story herereality is boring why do people watch "reality tv" which isn't realy reality its a the good conflicts editited to a half hour or hour long show if there was a reality tv sohw about your live; would it be interesting? would it be part of a story? a part of THE story. what would it be like?
How was your weekend? or what did you do this weekend? is usualy a loaded Question often when people ask this it is because they had a great weekend and just want to share what they did.
so I have started to track my time what my reality show looks like. this is what I've got so far:
