You have to follow God and then he will give you the things you want." This pastor spoke for half an hour and talked about a Christmas gift he wanted and how he got it. other stories from his life with a few jokes to sprinkled trough-out to make everyone laugh. Besides quoting the verse at the beginning of his sermon, it wasn't until five minutes from the end that he mentioned what I have quoted above.
It may sound like there is nothing wrong with what he said. That is the danger of heresy it sounds legitamate but if he had gone into the bible and read the rest of Matthew 6 the "things" that are being talked about are shelter, food, and clothing the minimum required to survive. I am sure there are people hit by Katrina that were "seeking the kingdom first" were is their stuff now? Where is their "things" they may not be comfortable but they have shelter and food available. Thanks to orginizations like the Red Cross
and churches like Grace BretherenThis pastor I'm sure wasn't intending to distort the scripture, but that's what happens when we approach the Bible selfishly as merely a book of truths to give us a set of principles for life, marriage, family, or finances. The Bible becomes nothing more than a tool to be used and it remains external. When we see the Bible as the living word, as Gods Story, it encompasses every aspect of life we are challenged to live in and become part of it.
